The coin is bright with sharp detail and is BU! This doubled-die nickel is scarce in high grades. Most of the coins were placed into circulation before the error was discovered! Very few have been found! Of the 1,435 coins certified by NGC, only 140 graded MS65.  With only 140 certified at this time, an MS65 grade is an excellent value. This is a major doubled-die date on a nickel! The doubling effect is visible on the DATE, MINT MARK and MOTTO! Is it doubled as much as the 1955 OR 1972 Lincoln Cent? Of course, not. However, it is better than the doubling on the 1984 Doubled-die Lincoln cent which often brings $400 or more for an uncirculated example. Indeed, it is certified as a doubled-die Nickel! The estimated mintage on the 1983 doubled-die Lincoln cent is 15,000. I have a set of coins that prove it's die usage was short lived. This nickel doubled-die is scarcer! Coin dies for nickels produce fewer coins than cent dies because nickel is a harder metal. Less than 2,000 of the 2004-P doubled-die nickels have been recoved from the banking system.
