Hello there, you are bidding on a scarce millenium 50p from 1988, this is a beautiful coin and a must for any collector. Feartures include: a shield bearing a representation of three castles over a representation of a mace, sword and cap of maintenance; the inscriptions "50p", "988" and "1988"; and a scroll bearing the inscription "ÁT CLIAT 1000 DUBLIN". See enlarge image. This coin was struck to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the founding of Dublin. The year 988 was chosen more for convenience than for historical fact, as Dublin was known as a commercial centre for at least a hundred years prior to this.   Happy bidding!!
