141 D FSB GEM UNCIRCULATED MERCURY SILVER DIME!
You are bidding on a141 D FSB (Full Split Bands) GEM UNCIRCULATED
WINGED LIBERTY HEAD MERCURY SILVER DIME!In our opinion, this coin would
be graded MS6.This coin is Guaranteed to be Authentic! The Mercury, or
Winged Liberty Head Dime was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and depicts
Liberty with a winged cap, representing freedom of thought. The cap,
called a Phrygian Cap, was commonly worn by freed slaves in the Roman
Empire. Mercury also sometimes had wings on his helm, and so the press
at the time of the dime's release started calling this the "Mercury"
Dime, and the name has stuck ever since.141-DPOPULAR VARIETIES:One
double-die obverse and three double-die reverse varieties are known.
Only DDO is distinct enough to be desirable beyond the specialist
arena. Three repunched mintmarks are noted. The familiar die crack from
wingtip to rim is found with this date, as well.COMMENTS:The high
percentage of full band specimens is typical of Denver Mint dimes of
the 140’s. The coins of this mint are found consistently better struck
than those of either Piladelphia or San Francisco. Also typical, though
for a smaller number of coins, are the semi-prooflike fields seen on
some “D” Mint dimes dated 137-42.141-D dimes became the objects of an
unusual promotion early in the year:Gov. Ralph L. Carr of Colorado
declared the week of Jan. 20 as “Silver Week” the time when the miners
of the state gather in Denver for their annual meeting.During the week,
silver was virtually the only money in circulation and Denver merchants
co-operated in an effort to make Denverites more silver-conscious.Mark
A. Skinner, supt. of the mint at Denver, released a quantitiy of 141 D
dimes. During the week anyone who was fortunate enough to find one of
these dimes could exchange it for a silver dollar at the headquarterrs
of the Association.(Information above from "The Complete Guide to
Mercury Dimes Second Edition")Your coin comes inside a sealed, hard
plastic case with a unique serial number!Bidding for this coin starts
at only $. cents! This is a great deal for a very unique coin! Good
Luck and Have Fun!
